Antesignano. Laddove il femminismo precede di decenni il lavoro di Luca Enoch, la sua sensibilità a temi oggi centrali nella conversazione pubblica è stata pionieristica nell’ambito del fumetto. Ci sono state altre eroine prima delle sue, ma la freschezza del suo linguaggio, la capacità di mettere a fuoco sfumature per cui, all’epoca, non c’era ancora il vocabolario moderno, e l’attenzione posta ad argomenti tuttora attuali, ne fanno se non un unicum sicuramente un primus. Non a caso, dopo l’esordio da autore indie, con Sprayliz, è stato riconosciuto dalla principale casa editrice fumettistica italiana, la Sergio Bonelli Editore, dove, in breve tempo, ha avuto spazio per continuare e crescere nel suo percorso d’autore completo. Enoch ha un segno pulito, deciso, incisivo tanto quanto una penna affiliata, ironica, sagace e sempre tenera. Capace di giocare con l’esoterismo e con la Storia in egual misura, le sue Gea e Lilith sono personaggi ricchissimi di omaggi ai Maestri e di stilettate originali (per tacer di Dragonero), e hanno suscitato affetto e una presenza costante di fedeli lettori, cartina tornasole del talento di questo fumettista meritevole di una ribalta internazionale.

A trailblazer. While feminism predates the work of Luca Enoch by decades, his sensitivity to themes that are now central to public discourse was pioneering within the world of comics. There had been heroines before his, certainly, but the freshness of his language, his ability to capture nuances for which, at the time, there was not yet a modern vocabulary, and the attention he devoted to subjects that remain highly relevant today make him, if not entirely unique, certainly a primus inter pares. It is no coincidence that, after his debut as an indie author with Sprayliz, he was recognized by Sergio Bonelli Editore, Italy’s leading comic book publisher, where he was soon given the opportunity to continue and expand his path as a complete author. Enoch’s artwork is clean, confident, and incisive, while his writing is sharp, ironic, perceptive, and always tender. Equally capable of weaving together esotericism and History, his Gea and Lilith are richly layered characters, filled with tributes to the Masters as well as strikingly original touches (not to mention Dragonero). These works have inspired enduring affection and a loyal readership over the years — clear proof of the talent of a comics creator who deserves an international spotlight.
